Kitchen Makeover + DEMO DAY || Concrete Slab House Reno

It’s time to completely makeover the kitchen in our concrete slab renovation house, but before we can do that, we need to demolish the existing kitchen.

Here’s how we do it:

DIY Kitchen Makeover - DEMO Day

Nice and simple, we start our kitchen demolition job by taking out the granite countertops.

This starts with pulling away the trim.

Then using a hammer and chisel or similar pry tool, we lift up the granite surface of the countertops.

From there, we can get rid of the countertop base.

We’re taking out literally everything, including the kitchen sink with this one, so that’s the next thing to go.

The cabinets are the next to go.

Since we want to salvage these, we’re careful to use a scraper and pry bar right on the edge of the cabinet rather than in the middle to stop them breaking.

All of the appliances are going as well, starting with the stove, which we need to take out so we can remove the backsplash tiles along the back wall.

Taking out the bottom row of tiles first makes it that much easier to take out the countertop attached to this wall.

And then we can come back later to remove the rest of the tiles after we remove the countertop.

Plumbing and electricity are obviously going to be important factors when doing demo work.

First, we use a thermal sensor to ensure that when we drill into the floor later we’re not going to be breaking any pipes or causing leaks.

Then, with the power safely switched off, we label everything so we know what goes where before cutting and removing everything that needs removing.

From there, it’s onto the floor, using a simple pry bar to take up the tiles.

With that done, it’s a simple case of taking out any remaining cabinets, light fittings and other little details, tidying up, and calling it a job well done!
