DIY Patio Gas Fire Pit Table

Today, I’m going to show you a nice, simple way to create an attractive cement gas fire pit table for your patio or garden space.

Let’s get to it.

How to Build a DIY Patio Gas Fire Pit Table

Building the Top and Bottom Wheels

We need our two wheels to be perfect, matching replicas of each other.

The way this works is to screw a screw directly into the middle of your plywood, tie a string around that screw and tie the other end of the string to the pencil and then we can draw a perfect circle around the plywood.

We can then use our saw to cut these out of the plywood.

Add some Weight-Bearing Support

Next, we’re going to cut some 2x4s to size to add some weight-bearing support to our fire pit table.

After cutting the pieces, we can then drill them into the top and bottom wheels.

Wrap the Frame

With the frame built, we can take some 4x8” sheets of plywood and use them to wrap around that frame.

Add Home Wrap and Felt

To add some protection, we’re first going to add some HomeWrap and staple that into place.

Then we can cover it with builder’s felt, which you may be familiar with if you’ve already seen my Built-In BBQ project.

Add the Lath

We’re also going to need to wrap it in a layer of lath to be able to support the stone finish that we’ll add later.

Prepare for the Concrete Pour

Next, we can start by using 2x4 blocks positioned in a circle as the frame for two strips of plywood, then add the base of our fire in there.

This will then give us the base ready for our concrete.

Add the Concrete

With that ready, we can mix the concrete.

And then pour it right in.

Preparing the Barrel

While the concrete dries, we can first cut our hole in the top and bottom wheels.

Then we can add a layer of thin-set around the outside.

Putting it Altogether

Finally, we can start piecing everything together first by bringing the wheel and the base into position.

Then adding our gas fitting and burner.

Wet sand the whole thing.

Add a sealer.

Finally, we can add our lava rocks...

...Connect up to our propane and there you have it, our finished fire pit table.
